For project 3 I have taken part in a project called 'A Sustainable Future'. This project was based around learning about eco friendly materials. In learning about such materials we was told we was going to be using a programme called Solidworks to create a small model which would then later on be printed using a 3D printer. After designing our model we was told we had to make the measurements suitable to fit inside a jar of my choice. This would then be used and turned into a snow globe. Once I was given instructions on this project I was really looking forward to starting this because I was able to gain knowledge of a new 3D programme which would be of use later on in my degree.
To start of this project we was told to sketch out some ideas of a small model we would want to create. Considering I want to do a degree in interior architecture I decided to draw out some buildings that would fit nicely for a snow globe. These are some of my sketches I produced.

After sketching out our ideas we all went through the basic stages of starting up the programme and learning the simple steps. I found this to be fairly easy to pick up. However, once going more into detail to try and follow my designs I found this to be more difficult to follow. These are some of the few ideas I tried out on Solidworks and just general playing around with the programme.

After lots of experimentation using the programme I had managed to achieve this model using some of the basic tools and trial and error. I felt that doing lots of experimentation helped with the final outcome of my design. I enjoyed being able to develop my ideas using this software and able to use a lot of trial and error. I found it really exciting that I was able to design a model using a 3D programme which then was later to be printed out 3D. It was definitely a useful and exciting project I was able to take part in and really think I have gained a lot of knowledge by learning about this software. I am certainly pleased with my outcome of my design and enjoyed being able to change the colours and textures on the model itself using the software.

To finish this project we had to create a net box to fit the scale of our snow globe. To create this packaging I used Photoshop. I then printed it out and put the net box together to fit the snow globe inside.
