Project 4, week 2

In the second week of my project I decided to continue following the headings Minimalism and Modernism. I then looked into Taodo Ando and his buildings he designed with the cross. Following this researched I mixed together Mies van der Rohe's work and Taodo Andos work. I then designed a modern library. The upstairs of this library held the desks and computers for students to study.
I really enjoyed doing this project. I think when learning about the designers more in depth it helps to form different ideas and to try out experimentation.

Project 4, Week 1

For this project I started to do a lot of research into the following headings, Modernism, Digital, Conceptualism, Abstract, and Minimalism. I researched into different designers for each heading and looked into how their designs and work could relate to Architecture.  The two headings I leaned more towards interest in was Modernism and Minimalism. I found them to be similar and found that once combining images of different designers together you can see where their research had linked in together. I found designers like Mies van der Rohe to be of interest to me. His work was very modern involving a lot of glass.  I also found Donald Judd and Shiro Kuramatas work of inspiration to my designs.  At this moment I am really enjoying this project as it involves a lot of research into depth and whilst doing this I am learning about new designers and gaining more ideas. I feel that the more research I accomplish, the better the design and outcome of my model.

Following the designers I researched into I did some designs of a bookshelf in a room built onto the wall. I decided to create a small model to indicate my ideas further.

Following the image above this is a photo showing the bookshelf inside the room.

I then decided what it would be like to have a built in bookshelf into the wall of a room. This way it takes up less space of the house and creates a modern design.

Researching into Donald Judd's work I was inspired by his shapes so decided to use diamonds as a part of making a sofa bench inside a house. This was made to be a simple design following minimalism.

V&A, Research for Catalyst Project 4

For project 4 we had to research into 5 words. Minimalism, Modernism, Digital, Conceptualism, and Abstract. To help me research into these words we visited the Victoria and Albert Museum to take photographs of what we think relate or link into these words.
