Lens based media week, Day 2

Day 2 of lens based media, we started the day by discussing what makes a story. We discovered that a story needs a beginning a middle and an end. in the beginning we must introduce the characters involved, the world it is based in, and always introduce a problem/struggle, a question that needs to be answered. During the middle of the story this should involve a journey to resolve the problems. There must be a struggle involved and that struggle must increase. There must always be a change in the story, if it is positive at the beginning it must be negative at the end, and visa versa. The end of the story must be the solution of the struggle. After this discussion we watched a small movie presenting a beginning a middle and an end involving a struggle.
The film included a boy that was stuck in a fridge but it showed us how there was more than one struggle through out the film. In doing this it involves the viewers into the film more and makes the story line much more interesting and complicated rather than having a simple solution. Following this film we watched some small clips showing us the same thing and then discussing the struggle each time. Being able to do this gave me a clearer understanding as to how important it is to have a struggle and how much you must think about it.
After this we then got into groups of 3's or 4's and started to draw memories from our past present and future. After doing this we created 3 story-lines in our groups using the sketches we had done. In my group in particular we had sketched a few characters from our childhood and created stories out of them. We then had to choose one story out of the 3 to discuss with our class and discuss what the struggle is.
During our time sketching each group got a few minutes to do some animation work. We had a piece of blue tack that was left from the previous group and had to create something out of it and continue the story line step by step by taking pictures each movement we made. At the end of the day we all viewed a small clip of the pictures moving which made a very clever video of our animations we had made. I found this to be impressive and was very much interested in viewing animation further.

This is a rough sketch of the story board that myself and my group represented to the class.
