Day 2 of 3D design consisted of us making a structure using only spaghetti to hold up 3 plastic balls that wasn't allowed to touch each other In addition to creating this structure we was only allowed to use twenty pieces of spaghetti and a glue gun. Before doing this we did quick designs in our sketch books of different ways to do this structure using different medias. After doing this I decided to work in a pair as it would be easier to complete together and we would be able to make a much larger scale. However, in doing this we had to make the structure big enough in able to hold down 6 plastic balls. I really enjoyed doing this exercise as I wasn't specifically following a design to make this structure but producing ideas as I was creating it. I think my structure was successful as it held up the 6 balls nicely and worked really well when taking a picture using the small models to show it was a large scale.
At the end of the day we all laid out our structures after covering them with card in able to protect them from breaking. The tutors then used a basketball to drop onto our structures to see if it would break or if it would still hold.

My first image of my structure held up against light to show the shadows behind. In addition to the light I placed two small blue tac men on to the structure to make it appear more architectural and to show a bigger scale |

An image showing my structure filled with paper to protect it being hit by a basketball. In doing this it has turned my structure into something completely different but I like the difference and how I had changed it to something else using different materials. I purposely made the lighting of this image to be dark as I found it interesting with the light shining right on to the structure and to block out other light so the viewer is focused on the structure and the shadows. |
